www.cpan.org now on IPv6

We are a little early for IPv6 day, but www.cpan.org has since a few minutes ago gained AAAA records.  This means that if your system has an IPv6 address, it will likely access that CPAN mirror over IPv6. Woo!

It also means that if your system thinks it has IPv6 access, but doesn't really – it'll connect much slower.

Our friends at Dynect monitors the IPv4 addresses for a couple of mirrors in California and one in Europe and makes sure that www.cpan.org is always accessible.  They don't offer this service for IPv6 yet, so for now IPv6 just gets round-robin DNS for two of the mirrors.

  1. … not any more it isn't — it seems you use fastly, which _still_ doesn't support IPv6. CPAN is thus not accessible using IPv6. Sigh. Unfortunately www.perl.org is also not accessible using IPv6, and so allowing it to autoconfigure doesn't work. Some mirrors do support IPv6, though — just hunt around in the list at http://www.cpan.org/SITES.html and find one near you with an AAAA record! Make sure you've got the necessary perl modules for IPv6 support installed. Worked for me :)

  2. @Gallefent - I think Fastly supports IPv6 now, I'll talk to them and see how we can get it enabled.

  3. IPv6 is back for www.cpan.org (and cpan.org).
